The German Shepherd dog is nothing short of a highly gifted dog. Its intelligence is envied by most of the dog world.
Many dogs from this breed are quite versatile in their learning abilities. This has led to them being trained to assist man in a variety of important jobs. Among those jobs are: guide dog, avalanche search and rescue, tracking, watchdog, police dog, drug and bomb detection. Also, in some parts of the world, it is still doing a good job of herding sheep.
Higly intelligent, obedient, easy to train, protective, brave, and fiercely loyal are just some of the words used to describe this breed.
Although high intelligence is often a sought after trait in a dog, it is not always a desirable one. Any prospective owner of a German Shepherd dog needs to be sure they are willing to put in extra effort to channel the abilities of their new family member.
